Reading Lists: Adding the bookmarking extension

Adding the web extension

Before you can start adding your references to your Reading Lists, you need to install an extension to your browser. This tool is available for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. We recommend the web extension as the easiest way to add items to your reading list. It will allow you to save items from LibrarySearch and other websites without manually adding all the information, saving a lot of time.

There are known issues with using Safari on a Mac, so please use another browser wherever possible; we recommend Chrome as the best option.

 

Adding the web extension for your browser

Install the Talis Aspire Bookmarking tool in Chrome by completing the following steps:

  1. Locate the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking extension in the Chrome web store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome.
  3. A popup will appear confirming you'd like to add the extension to your browser, and confirms that the extension can access talis-public.talis.com. To install the bookmarking extension click Add extension. You should now see the Talis logo appear along side your other extensions.
  4. The first time you attempt to use this extension it will prompt you to select your institution.
  5. Click the dropdown and select your institution from the list, then click Save. 

Install the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarker into Mozilla Firefox by following these steps:

  1. Locate and open the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarker in the Firefox Add-ons menu.
  2. Click Add to Firefox.
  3. A popup will appear confirming you want to install the extension, including an alert that the extension needs your permission to access talis-public.talis.com. Click Add.
  4. To complete the extension setup, right click on the Talis logo and select Manage Extension.
  5. Click the dropdown and select your institution from the list, then click Save.

Install the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarker extension by following these steps:

  1. Locate and open the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarker extension on the Microsoft Store.
  2. Click Get. If you are not already logged in to your Microsoft account, you will be prompted to log in.
  3. Click Install.
  4. Once installed, click the slide to switch the extension on. You should now see the Talis logo appear along side your other extensions. 
  5. The first time you use the extension you will be prompted to select your institution from a dropdown list. Then click Save.
