Reading Lists: Annual updates

Annual updates

Publishing your list is easy. When you are logged in to Talis Aspire and have made a change to your list, you will see a Publish button at the top of your list. Just click this and your changes will be visible, and we will count your list as recieved for this year.

We encourage you to think of your reading list as a living document, so you can update it throughout the year. Whenever you do, please publish your list again and the Library will be alerted that you have made changes.

Please ensure that all resources recommended in lectures, labs and seminars are included on the reading list, as well as resources needed for assessment. This is the only way the Library knows what is needed.

If you have a module which is completely new, you may need to set the list up. You can do this following the instructions on our Creating a reading list page, or you can contact your Teaching and Engagement Librarian for help and advice.

If your module has previously run, but is not active in the current academic year - for example, you are looking for the 2022-23 version of a reading list for a course which last ran in 2019-20 - then please contact your Teaching and Engagement Librarian who will be able to create a copy of the list for the current year.

If your module is running but has no assigned materials - for example, a dissertation or other research-based module - there should be a note with the following standard text:

The convenor of this course has informed us there is no reading list. If you have questions, please contact your Teaching and Engagement Librarian.

Publish this list to confirm this is still the case for the current academic year. If this is no longer the case, simply delete this note and add your readings to the list.

Note that module lists that are published like this will not have any resources purchased for them by the Library.

If your module is running but has no assigned materials - for example, a dissertation or other research-based module - there should be a note with the following standard text:

This is a practical course and the convenor has informed us there is no reading list. If you have questions, please contact your Teaching and Engagement Librarian.

Publish this list to confirm this is still the case for the current academic year. If this is no longer the case, simply delete this note and add your readings to the list.

Note that module lists that are published like this will not have any resources purchased for them by the Library.

If your module has multiple codes, such as when the same module is offered to students in more than one year, please ensure this is reflected on the reading list by editing the name of the list to include them all. For example, something like AB1234/AB2234: Sample Reading List. This allows us to keep accurate track of how many students will need to access the resources on your list.

If there is a reading list for a module which is not running in the academic year, please inform your Teaching and Engagement Librarian.

It is possible for the library to retrieve old reading lists from the archive. If there is a list that you would like to view from a previous academic year, please contact your Teaching and Engagement Librarian.
