Referencing, Citing, and Structuring Bibliographies

A beginners' guide to referencing and bibliographies.

RefWorks and LaTeX

Although it is not possible to use the RefWorks Citation Management feature with RefWorks, it's possible to use RefWorks to store references and then export a BibTEX file to work in LaTEX. This will be a standalone file, and won't update automatically. When new references are added to RefWorks, you'll need to export the file again.

  1. In RefWorks, go the the folder with your references.
  2. Select the Share button at the top of the screen.
  3. From the dropdown, select Export references.
  4. Choose the format as BibTEX or BiBLaTEX.
  5. To generate a more useful citekey, tick authoryeartitle under ID Output.
  6. Save the generated .bib file in the same folder as your LaTEX file.
