You should reference every idea, opinion, fact or quote from a source, even if you put it in your own words.
We always recommend that you check referencing advice given by your department and tutor as some referencing conventions may vary.

The Library Moodle page is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is full of guidance and activities on referencing, plagiarism, and other research skills you will need whilst studying at Royal Holloway.
The department does not prescribe the use of any specific referencing style as long as the references provided are consistent and comprehensive.
Most students choose to use Harvard or IEEE. You will find resources to help you structure your references in these styles in our Moodle activities for Harvard and IEEE. You can also consult the IEEE Citation Guidelines.

Reference management tools help you to save and organise your research, they can also help you to format references and citations and also create bibliographies.
The library provides access to RefWorks for all students to use, there are also a number of free tools available online.
