Health Studies: Citing and Referencing

The Royal Holloway University of London subject guide for the Department of Health Studies

Key points for Citing and Referencing

You should reference every idea, opinion, fact or quote from a source, even if you put it in your own words.

We always recommend that you check referencing advice given by your department and tutor as some referencing conventions may vary.

For further help and support please visit the referencing section on the Library's Moodle page. The Library Moodle page is available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is full of guidance and activities on referencing, plagiarism, and other research skills you will need whilst studying at Royal Holloway.

Departmental Referencing Guides

For undergraduate students, the department recommends using a version of APA 7. For help with this style, see the exercises on Moodle or use Cite Them Right below.

For postgraduate students, you will be asked to use APA 7 or Harvard. You can find help on both styles in Moodle and Cite Them Right, depending on your course.

Reference Management Tools

Reference management tools help you to save and organise your research, they can also help you to format references and citations and also create bibliographies.

The library provides access to RefWorks for all students to use, there are also a number of free tools available online.

To find out more about these tools and how to use them visit this guide to Referencing Tools.
