Following feedback from you around behaviour in the Library, and the way that some students were using the space, we decided to gather feedback ourselves on how students use the Library and ensure that their voice is heard.
In November 2023, we talked to students, asking you the simple question "how do you use the Library?" and asked you to annotate floorplans of the Library with your thoughts on how you use the space. Over 100 of you helped us with this, giving us lots to work with, and we're very grateful to everyone who contributed!
What you told us is that you had concerns over the group study area on the first floor, like large groups making more noise than is acceptable. We've made changes to this area, introducing different types of furniture and replacing the very long tables with round tables which you told us you find useful for group work. We we hope this will be an improvement.
We're also raising awareness of how to book the group study rooms, addressing some of the behavioural complaints with our Love your Library campaign, promoting some of our less well-used study spaces, and a future project will look more specifically at the issues around accessibility that some of you raised.
We've also produced a leaflet outlining the main changes we've made, and we'll continue to consult you on how you use the library in the future. In the meantime, if you have any feedback or questions, please email us on library@rhul.ac.uk
